Yes, have them understand that the only person that should be cutting is the person that is one spot away from the ball. Even though you are two spots away from the ball and the defender is hugging read lines you must emphasize that they shouldn’t cut to the basket.

This how we do the 90/10 rule for the first half of the season. Monday through Thursday the emphasis is offense based. Friday we switch to emphasis to defense and we run the system. Placing all the emphasis on how we are going to stop certain actions.

I have my post player use the cutter as a fake so what i mean by that we train them to lean cutter side then do a move opposite the cutter. So we want them to use the cutter if they don’t pass it to them.

I feel your pain but to answer your question yes you can sir. We use the zone attack offense and the go to and counter move get the lay-up and the other player work on player development.

We had a kid come to the program mid-season and was a 6-4 kid and for a 9th grader was pretty good in the post but wasn’t the best ball handler. So we had him stay on one side of the floor in the mid post. When the ball was ball side we try to get him the ball if he didn’t get it he set a screen for the cutter and when the ball was weak side they set the screen for him. The only thing we had to teach him was how to post slide. The kids loved it and we where pretty productive with him in that spot.

We run the pack line in our program and what I have found is that kids that are lazy and don’t jump to the ball get puppy dog and front cut. As we all know know the skip pass hurts the pack line defense and when get the defense stretched out we pas & cut them. So you just don’t pass & cut.

Okay the first shot that the offensive team take they get two points for and everyone else that makes a shot gets one point for their shot.

Okay I learned this from Coach TJ Rosene at one of the R & R camp years ago and it still works with my new players coming in. He said have them talk out everything that they are doing if they are filling make them say and when they are on the baseline have them coach the players.

I hope this helps you and much success to you and your team.

We have been running the R & R with the program for about 4 years now. We started using the new fusion practice system with our kids on Thursday and they really enjoy it. We are in the rehearsal phase of the new practice system is what I have told them. The feedback from the kids is that they don’t feel like they are just running reaction drills but running the offensive. The plan is to do a week of rehearsal and add the defensive aspect to practice. In the past we did layer drills then defensive. As a coach the fusion practice offers more flexibility then ever before.
