Good morning! We have a situation with our youth team where we will be switching between 5-out and 4-out, 1-in based on personnel. For youth, do you recommend keeping the 4 out in the same spots as the 5-out instead of going to the traditional R&R 4-out spots where the top is split with two wings? When we put this in at the high school level, we would switch to that alignment, but I’m wondering if there is any wisdom or perspective if it’s easier to just let them play from the 5-out spots even though there’s a player in the post. Thanks!

Hey Bob! That’s good insight! There are a lot teams that stick to the 5 spots regardless of formation. Their claim is that it’s simpler and there are very few drawbacks. Many of them say that there are advantages to some overloads you’ll occasionally get.
