Combos

I am curious what kind of combinations of layers coaches have had success with. I have had lots of success with dribble at draft drives and dribble at laker cuts. What are some other combos that work?

Double circle move -natural pitch is one that I can recommend. When penetrator 1 attacks the basket, it draws help. Natural pitch forces the help defender to close out properly, a skill that is woefully in short supply even at the NBA level. Penetrator 2 takes advantage of that, executing a draft drive move. Make sure Penetrator 1 fills out and doesn’t stop to admire their work. Very simple yet effective.

Any action which forces a quality close out should be explored. In the zone attack, a pass from the wing to the top guard position could force a close out by the top side help defender in an aggressive 2-3. Voila, you could be in the lane which is dead-man-walking against the zone.

Check out the R&R 5-player Rehearsals that make up the FUSION PRACTICE PROJECT. There are 32 of them located in the REFERENCE chapter. I’ve listed them below. Not all of them are combinations, but many of them are. These are combinations that I’ve drawn from watching successful game possessions.

Many of the combinations (starting with #16) begin with a Dribble-At, but you could replace the Dribble-At with a Pass & Cut and accomplish the same combination. You simply have to figure out where the cutter goes, but that’s usually obvious.
