• Working the Defense

    Hi Rick & Coaches
We have been using the Fusion practice system with our girls varsity team. Six of the girls have been running the R&R with me for five years and the system has really helped sharpen them while bringing the rest of the team up to an efficient level quicker than i planned. I was wondering if any of you have use the Fusion format with R&R actions to work on the defense and any successful pairings of actions to Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 defense principles?

    Thanks
    Ron

I work on my defense as much as my offense while practicing with fusion. Especially with positioning. I also tell the girls to train the offense by stepping over read lines, trailing puppy dog, and open shot.

Ron – that’s the idea behind Fusion! I’m glad to hear you ask the question and I’m anxious to see what coaches say. At some point, I plan on going back through each step and talk about the defense required to defend each step. It should expose your Levels of defense.

The whole idea is to allow you to do something like that without teaching a new format or drill. Just choose the rehearsal and turn all of your attention to defense.
